This school year is over and I am looking forward for next school year.

Here are some ideas of materials and activities for summer when your child says, "I'm bored!"

Materials/Activities:
  • Trips to the library or Bookman's to purchase used books
  • Help plan vacations using maps
  • Write letters to relatives/friends
  • Read to a younger child--parents read to your child
  • Fun activity books/Workbooks from any discount store (Wall-Mart, Dollar Store, etc.)
  • Keep a journal of any trips, visit to the zoo, parks, etc.

  • Starfall.com (good for beginning readers)

100th Day of School
The 100th Day of School will be celebrated on Monday, January 24th. This is a funding day for the school and attendance is required! Please help your child complete the Family Project which is due on or before January 20th so it can be on display for the 100th day. Check your child's folder for the guidelines which went home last Wednesday. Copies of these guidelines are posted by our classroom door.
If your child completes the project for the 100th day, he/she may dress down in pajamas on the 24th. (Slippers are OK, but school shoes are required to go outside the classroom.)
CONTINUE TO READ, READ, AND READ EVERY DAY for 15-20 minutes each day/night. Don't forget to fill out and initial the reading logs which are due every Friday.
Any donations to our classroom are greatly appreciated!

Thanksgiving Feast
November 23rd
La Paloma Academy will be serving a Thanksgiving meal of turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy to the students. Our class is to donate 2 to 4 cans of corn (unprepared) for this event.

Pizza Hut Book It Reading
This is a fabulous reading incentive for all levels. Every Friday your child should be turning in a reading log informing me that he/she has read for at least 15 to 20 minutes each night. If your child turns in the reading log each week, at the end of the month he/she will receive a coupon for a FREE personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut!!!
Continue to practice the sight words! Visit www.starfall.com for more reading fun! This counts towards reading logs too!!!!
The first family project for this school year is due on November 18th. Check out our guidelines on our bulletin board or newsletter.

We are planning a field trip to the library on Wednesday, October 6th. Permission slips will be sent home this week. Please sign and return as soon as possible.
The 40th day of school is Thursday, October 7th. It is a funding day for La Paloma Academy and attendance is extremely important.
Sign up sheet for parent/teacher conferences is outside our door. If you need another date or time, please let me know.

August 30, 2010
Homework is assigned every day Monday through Thursday and should be turned in on the following day. Decodable Readers will be going home once or twice a week. Read the book with your child, let him/her read it independently and color the pictures. Assemble the reader collection box and save the books in it until your child can read it easily with fluency and comprehension. Make sure that your child studies for spelling quizzes on Fridays.

I hope you all enjoyed your Rodeo Break! Our next break is March 12th--15th. Remember to sign the sheet attached to your child's report card and return it ASAP.
A special thanks to all the Grandparents that came to share all the stories about how life was like when they were young. It was wonderful to have them here! By the way, if you have not seen our timelines, please come and see them.
Remember to keep reading with your child. Your child should be reading at least 40 words per minute by the end of the school year. Continue to practice the sight words and fill out the reading logs.
